This auction is for a Vintage 1970's Hawaiian Pencil Sea Urchin Spine 22.5" Necklace and Earring Set.
This set was made by Artist Judy Gentile in the 1970's and we sold them at our stand at the Princess Kaiulani Hotel Lobby during the 1970's to 1980's. We would set up on weekends in the lobby with other artists to sell our wares to tourists and locals. It was a wonderful place and a wonderful time, which can never be replaced.
This beautiful set measures approximately 22.5" from barrel clasp to barrel clasp and contains 15 spines from the Pencil Sea urchin found on the island in rocky areas in rough waters. They are set out in the air to cure and the color turns from red to brown as seen with this set. The spines in this set measure from 3" to 4¼" long and are strung on wire cord with orange speckled yellow glass beads with black bead spacers. The earring Spines measure approximately 3" with the total length of the earrings at 3¾".
They have never been worn and come from a smoke free pet free home.
